intERLab provides training programs to enhance the skills of existing infrastructure engineers and technologists. Training programs using face-to-face both at AIT and in home country as well as remote classes using ICT are being conducted.
AIT’s Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) has successfully been selected by DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe), who manages the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) project for the European Union (EU), to become the center for TEIN3 HRD. With intERLab’s proven records in designing and conducting TEIN2 HRD since 2005, on behalf of APAN Training Committee, intERLab has now been assigned to be the center of Human Resource Development Programme for TEIN3 (Trans-Eurasia Information Network) project which is the large-scale research and education infrastructure network for Asia direct connectivity to Europe’s GÉANT3 network . The TEIN project is funded by the European Union and respective Asian governments to develop research and education network infrastructure enabling collaborations among researchers ad educators across the Asian region to participate in joint research and education projects with their peers in Europe and other parts of the world. Over the last three years, we have been working on the themes of: ‘Building the Network’ [2006]; ‘Promoting Applications on TEIN2’ [2007]; and ‘Promoting Co-ordinations on TEIN2’ [2008] and trained more than 200 NOC engineers during 2005 – 2007 from six beneficiaries and in 2008 from seven beneficiaries in the areas of network security and management, NOC operation management, Routing protocols, VoIP, Streaming and IP Multicast.
In terms of need assessment, Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) training activities are run and coordinated by one of intERLab staff. APNIC is one of five Regional Internet Registries currently operating in the world. It provides allocation and registration services which support the operation of the Internet globally. It is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation whose members include Internet Service Providers, National Internet Registries, and similar organisations. APNIC represents the Asia Pacific region, comprising 56 economies. As a result, intERLab receives inputs with regards to all necessary information from countries where APNIC offered training services to the Internet community.
intERLab focuses on training people for designing, building and maintaining, and operating Internet and on-line educational services, or for simply using the Internet as a major tool in their everyday life and work.
