
The Director of the Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) contributed to the 125th Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meeting, held in Shenzhen, China, from March 14 to 20, 2026.
Dr. Adisorn Lertsinsrubtavee served as host of the GAIA (Global Access to the Internet for All) Research Group session in his newly appointed role as co-chair. The session featured five expert presentations addressing key challenges and innovations in global internet access and infrastructure. Leandro Navarro from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya presented draft-gaia-circular-device-practice, focusing on sustainable approaches to device lifecycle management.

John Robert Mendoza of the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI), Philippines, followed with Connecting the Unconnected: It Takes a Village to Build a Bayanihanet, highlighting the role of community-driven initiatives in expanding connectivity. Polly Huang of National Taiwan University presented Studying Twitch’s CDN as an Ecosystem, offering insights into the dynamics of large-scale content delivery networks.
Jonathan Brewer of Telco2 introduced the Local Networks Demand, Supply & Financial Planning App, demonstrating practical tools to support the planning and sustainability of local networks. The session concluded with Amreesh Phokeer of the Internet Society (ISOC), who presented Blackouts & Byteouts: Assessing Internet Infrastructure Resilience under Power Grid Failures, examining the robustness of internet infrastructure in the face of power disruptions.

intERLab’s participation in IETF 125 highlights AIT’s commitment to contributing to global internet standards development and addressing critical challenges through research. It also strengthens collaboration with researchers and practitioners in the field of Internet technologies worldwide.
