TEIN Annual Workshop
AIT’s Selection for TEIN3 Project:

AIT's Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) has successfully been selected by DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe), who manages the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) project for the European Union (EU), to become the center for TEIN3 HRD. With intERLab's proven records in designing and conducting TEIN2 HRD since 2005, intERLab has now been assigned to be the center of Human Resource Development Programme for TEIN3 (Trans-Eurasia Information Network) project which is the large-scale research and education infrastructure network for Asia direct connectivity to Europe’s GÉANT3 network . The TEIN project is funded by the European Union and respective Asian governments to develop research and education network infrastructure enabling collaborations among researchers ad educators across the Asian region to participate in joint research and education projects with their peers in Europe and other parts of the world.

TEIN3 is an extension of TEIN2, which covers Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and China with peering arrangements with Australia, Japan, Korea and Singapore, to include South Asian countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India and Pakistan -- and Cambodia which is to commence in 2009. Human resources development for TEIN3 can be viewed as an important component of the project to bring network engineers to operate the high speed network facilities effectively for research and education environment with the needs to accommodate rapid changes in the technologies and very specialized demands.

The TEIN3’s future success will largely depend on having innovative and stimulating applications on the network for the R&E user community thus training for network engineers should be tightly coupled with training of R&E network users. The total budget for TEIN3 HRD Programme is about €150 K which includes €74,950 travel and diems of TEIN3 beneficiaries' travels for HRD programme.
