Introduction & Motivations:

Internet of Things (IoTs) can be used to monitor environmental conditions. The low-cost IoT devicescan provide sensor datum which are valuable for decision making, resource management, pollution control and much more. Recent developments allow us to build and customize IoTs for specific monitoring purposes with selected communication technologies. IoTs can be useful in many scientific and research disciplines. Examples include, but are not limited to, air pollution, haze monitorong, health care, disaster prevention and mitigation.

This workshop is a hands on look into Internet of Things and into the LoRaWan technology for long range communiction. It will give participants the opportunity to build

their own IoT devices using LoPy4, a MicroPython enabled development board to send data using different wireless technologies and by storing measurements in a database. On the last day, the participants will share the results of their discussions/experiments. A basic knowledge of the Python language will be highly appreciated.

Workshop Goals
  • Introduction to IoT architectures
  • Building a IoT using the MicroPython platform
  • LoRaWAN technologies
  • Establishing a middleware to store measurements using open source tools
  • Analyzing existing deployments and learning how to plan a successful one
Target Audience:
  • System Builders / System Engineers
  • Scientists and researchers from various fields
  • Industry/domain-specific experts who wish to use IoT in their work
Notice that, a side project meeting is also organised for all SEA-HAZEMON@TEIN project members to report progress on sensor deployment and discuss about relevant project activities which will be held on 16 September 2019. Agenda of the side project meeting and workshop are summarized as follows:
