A Modular Framework for Real-time Data Delivery in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract
In order to support real-time applications, network components in wireless
sensor networks (WSNs) must ensure that data arrive their destination
within a calculated time. These components are mostly based on a medium
access control (MAC) protocol, and their implementation leads to the
existing large pool of MAC protocols. In contrast to this approach, we
present a modular framework that uses an existing MAC protocol and a new
network dimensioning method. The framework defines how to create a
wireless sensor network with a guaranteed maximum of message delivery
time, and therefore it can enable the target real-time applications.
